Join us on the fourth Wednesday of every month for Odyssey Film Club, a special strand designed to shine a light on cinema from around the world.
This month we take a journey to Palestine for Annemarie Jacir’s multi-award winning road movie Wajib.
Shadi returns home to Palestine to join his father in the centuries-old tradition of hand delivering wedding invitations for his sister’s wedding, a formality known as ‘Wajib’. What follows is an often funny and touching familial road movie, intertwined with the striking political tensions of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
A nuanced and cleverly portrayed story of family living under oppression, and the unavoidable cross-generational tensions that come with parent-child relationships.
Stay after the film to enjoy some traditional Palestinian food and drink, alongside a roundtable discussion.
