Making waves globally for speaking to a generation of forgotten youth, and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary, filmmaker Bing Liu’s love letter to skateboarding is an emotional and transformative experience for any viewer.
From the deeply intimate portraits of Chicago’s young skateboarders, to the personal demons Liu attempts to navigate, Minding the Gap gives an insight into skateboarding as a form of escapism, transcendentalism and therapy, while using it as a bridge to understand the current state of race, class, and domestic violence, relevant to American society today.
