Yorgos Lanthimos has returned with a disturbing thriller inspired by Greek mythology. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a dark comedy hinging on a extremely individualistic family, whose apparent perfection is cracked by the sinister intentions of a mysterious young man.
Dr. Steven Murphy is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon living in apparently domestic bliss with his ophthalmologist wife Anna and their two ideal children, 12-year-old Bob and 14-year-old Kim. Their idyllic household is lurked on by Martin, an orphaned teenager who Steven has secretly taken under his wing. As Martin begins interfering with Murphy family’s life in increasingly upsetting ways, Steve finds himself in front of a dramatic choice that will inevitably crash everything he has constructed in his life; a scenario that echoes Greek tragedy.
