Dir. Sydney Pollack, Alan Elliott • 2019 • UK/US • Documentary • 86 mins • Cert U
46 years ago Sydney Pollack filmed Aretha Franklin’s most remarkable and intense performance, a two day recording of her most successful album at the New Temple Baptist Mission church in Los Angeles.
After a painstaking process of syncing the audio to the footage, Alan Elliot completed Pollack’s work and produced one of the most important visuals of musical history to date.
A truly soul-shaking, electrifying and transcendental experience, Amazing Grace is one of the most anticipated concert films you’ll ever see.
We’re pleased to be screening short film La Lune Folle, directed by Meneka Das, before the main feature. Find out more about our Shorts In The South initiative here.
On arrival (from 7.30pm), audience members will be treated to a 15-minute live performance by the Soulbirds Ladies Choir, a community choir based in South London.
