An intimate and boldly transgressive film by South African director John Trengove, charting a young teen's initiation ritual in a remote mountain retreat off the Eastern Cape.

Featuring a terrific debut from openly gay musician Nakhane Touré, better known in his native South Africa as a successful singer-songwriter, The Wound is a thought-provoking exploration of manhood as reflected through the prism of African Culture.

Assigned to guide city boy Kwanda, lonely factory worker Xolani participates in an ancient rite of passage into manhood alongside the tribe's other young men. Defiantly clinging to his queer identity within this toxic masculine environment, before long Kwanda recognizes the nature of Xolani’s relationship with his fellow guide, Vija. What follows is a dangerous entanglement of lust and desire between the three men.

Having premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, as with Moonlight, the film's comparable Oscar-winning predecessor, The Wound injects the coming-of-age genre with a much needed shot in the arm.

Refreshments available, including hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks.
